Our route from Wentzville, west of St. Louis, to Spokane. The main routing choices were to take in the Badlands, Sturgis, and Glacier NP on the way going, and Colorado on the way back. We had to choose between Glacier and Yellowstone on the way up; we chose Glacier since it was more remote, and would have like to have toured Yellowstone on the way back...if we only had more time! We overnighted in Mitchell, SD, and Lewistown, MT on the way to Spokane.

ljmattox > The Mighty K loaded for travel. It was this trip that convinced us to rethink our travel packing! Those stacked duffels on the luggage rack made for worrisome travel, due to their shifting some while in flight. We use bungee buddies and duffels on each side case now, much better.

ljmattox > We like to stop and capture state signs when we can. Stacy will keep vivid memories of Iowa...we'd just gotten gas, then back on I-29 when we were swarmed by bees escaping a hive-transport truck. Near Honey Creek, IA...go figure.

ljmattox > We overnighted at Mitchell, then left on a cool morning and made the Badlands area by late morning. We stopped at the Badlands scenic overlook, and got a fellow m/c traveler to snap this photo. See the Badlands *far* off in the distance? Not good enough, I wanted Stacy to get a good look at them, and this wouldn't do. So...off we went into the park itself. Schedule? What schedule?

ljmattox > We parked the K for a bit to stretch our legs and for Stacy to make a "we're still alive" call to her dad. The Badlands really look like a moonscape, so unusual.
